    PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy has proven to be effective in the treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis, stroke and traumatic brain and spinal cord injury. It offers those afflicted with tools and techniques to acquire and maintain an optimum level of function and pain free living.

    TREATMENT DETAILS

Physiotherapy treatment can include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, acupuncture and electrical modalities such as TENS or ultrasound.

Rehabilitation and exercise therapy are designed to restore movement, strength, endurance, and overall function following injury, pain, or physical limitations. A personalized exercise program is developed based on each patient’s individual needs and goals to improve mobility, reduce disability, prevent future complications, and support a safe return to daily activities.

Through targeted strengthening, flexibility, balance, and functional exercises, rehabilitation helps patients regain independence, improve physical performance, and achieve their highest possible level of function and quality of life.

Dry needling is a physiotherapy technique used to help reduce muscle tension, relieve pain, and improve movement. It involves inserting very thin, sterile needles into tight or sensitive areas of muscle, often referred to as trigger points. The needles stimulate the muscle and surrounding tissues, which may help release tension, improve blood flow, and restore normal muscle function.

Dry needling may be incorporated into a physiotherapy treatment plan for conditions such as muscle tightness, sports injuries, repetitive strain, neck or back pain, and other musculoskeletal concerns. It is typically used alongside other treatments such as manual therapy, stretching, strengthening, and therapeutic exercise.

Ultrasound and TENS are therapeutic modalities that may be used as part of a physiotherapy treatment plan to help manage pain and support recovery.

Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to deliver energy to targeted soft tissues, and may be used to support tissue healing, improve mobility, and reduce pain and stiffness.

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) uses gentle electrical impulses delivered through electrodes placed on the skin to help reduce pain and provide temporary relief from muscle discomfort.

These therapies are often used alongside manual therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise to support recovery and improve overall function.

    THERAPY PROCESS

Physiotherapy is the treatment of preference for many who suffer from pain whether in the back or neck, or joint pain such as hips, knees, ankles, wrists, elbows or shoulders.

Physiotherapists work in partnership with individuals of all ages to break down the barriers to physical function whether that means working with patients pre and post surgery, helping people come back from illness and chronic disease, injury, industrial and motor vehicle accidents and age related conditions.

When you see a physiotherapist, he or she will complete an extensive assessment that may include your health history, evaluation of pain and movement patterns, strength, joint range of motion, reflexes, sensation and cardiorespiratory status. In addition, the physiotherapist examines relevant xrays, laboratory tests, medical records and surgical notes. Based on this assessment the physiotherapist establishes a diagnosis and works in partnership with you to develop individualized goals and treatment programs.
